Farmers and Community:

In the Chalatenango region, near the border of Honduras, is La Arada, a farm owned and managed by Cristobal Cartagena Santamaria. He is 55 years old and has seven children, four of which currently live with him and his wife. Cristobal’s life is in farming, growing not only coffee, but also tomato, ejote, loroco, and some various fruit trees. He purchased the farm back in 1992 and has worked diligently to improve the lands to grow excellent quality coffee.



Processing:

For this lot, during the harvest, the cherries are carefully handpicked, only when at peak ripeness. The coffee is then sorted, washed, and pulped to remove the external fruit, leaving a remaining layer of sticky mucilage. The coffee is then dispersed on raised beds to dry in the open sun. The coffee is shaken three times a day to prevent the growth of mould and covered at night to reduce humidity. Once the coffee is at the ideal moisture content, it is bagged and rested before being delivered to the dry mill to be hulled.

DPD NEXT-DAY DELIVERY

Orders placed with DPD before 8:30 am will be sent via Next Day Delivery,; however, this doesn't include weekends. Any orders dispatched on Friday will be delivered on the following Monday.

Any orders weighing over 2.5 kg will be sent via DPD Courier. Your confirmation email will notify you if this is the case. Green coffee orders are restricted to a maximum of 10kg.

This option excludes Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands.

For those local to York, we have free local collection points throughout the city that we deliver to on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Orders placed from Friday to Tuesday will be delivered to the chosen collection point on Wednesday morning. You will be notified via email when your order is ready. You will have one week to collect your order from your chosen location. Any unclaimed orders will be returned to the York Emporium roastery for collection once this period has elapsed
