Roasted in York
Small-batch speciality coffee since 2010.
We're a small speciality coffee roastery in York. We buy good green coffee, roast it in small batches, and pack it by hand so it reaches you fresh. We've been doing exactly that since 2010, and it's still the whole job.
The people behind it
Our head roaster, Lee, has been roasting for over ten years. That experience is the quiet difference between coffee that has been roasted and coffee that has been roasted well, knowing when to push a profile, when to hold back, and when to leave a good bean alone.
We keep the team small on purpose. It means every batch has someone's full attention, and nothing leaves here that we wouldn't happily drink ourselves.
Where the coffee comes from
Good coffee is decided long before it reaches us. We work with green coffee buyers who think about quality and fairness the way we do, and who build proper, lasting relationships with the farms and cooperatives behind every harvest.
We keep the detail where it's most useful. Every coffee on the site carries its own origin, producer, process and flavour notes on its product page, so you can read as much or as little as you like before you buy.
Two roasters, one roastery
We roast on two machines that could hardly be more different. The Joper is a traditional drum roaster. The Sivetz roasts with hot air rather than a hot metal drum. Each draws something different out of the bean.
Most roasteries our size run one or the other. We run both, so we can match the method to the coffee instead of forcing every bean through the same roast. Everything is roasted in small batches here in York, packed by hand, and sent out fresh.
Where to start
However you take it, there's a good place to begin.
