York Emporium Wins Two Great Taste Awards 2025 for House Espresso Coffee

York Emporium Wins Two Great Taste Awards 2025 for House Espresso Coffee

We’ve got something to celebrate, and it smells like freshly brewed espresso.

We’re delighted to share that not one, but two of our cherished coffees, House Espresso blend and its Nespresso-compatible counterpart, have each been awarded a 1-star accolade at this year’s Great Taste Awards. Judged by some of the most discerning palates in food and drink, these awards celebrate flavour, balance, and craftsmanship, which are all qualities we strive for in every roast.

It’s a genuine honour, and a proud moment for one of our most-loved coffees.

What’s a Great Taste Award?

Run by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards are judged by chefs, buyers, food critics, and industry pros. Every product is blind-tasted and scored purely on flavour and taste.

Out of over 14,000 entries, only a fraction earn a star. So, when one of our coffees makes the cut, we know we’ve done something right.

Which of our coffees won?

House Espresso

Our flagship blend. Smooth, balanced, and rich, designed to be your go-to daily brew whether you’re pulling an espresso or making a flat white.

What the judges said:

“Balanced, deep and versatile... the flavour evolved beautifully with milk, revealing layers of fruit and nut.”

House Espresso Nespresso-Compatible Pods

Convenience without compromise. We’ve taken the same quality roast and packaged it in fully recyclable Nespresso-compatible pods, ideal for weekday mornings or office coffee breaks.

What the judges said:

“Excellent crema… rich and nutty with a milk chocolate and caramel finish when brewed with milk.”

“House Espresso was always about balance, richness and reliability. To see it recognised like this just confirms what our customers already know, that it’s a proper brew.” – Lee, Head Roaster.

Behind the roast: flavour, processing and farmers

Behind every great coffee is a cast of characters and this one has quite the ensemble.

Our House Espresso is built on beans from two of coffee’s most celebrated origins: Kenya and Colombia. Grown at high altitudes and carefully harvested from a range of small farms, this blend brings together the expertise and passion of countless producers, each playing their part in the final cup.

The varietals SL28, SL34 and Castillo are all 100% Arabica, prized for their complexity and balance. Once picked, the beans are fully washed, a meticulous process that enhances clarity and brightness in the cup.

It’s the work of many hands across many hillsides, from the lush highlands of Kenya to Colombia’s volcanic valleys. Our coffee is grown in different regions, crafted to work seamlessly together in the cup.

Are Nespresso-Compatible pods just as good?

Perfect for reassuring people who might think pods = lower quality.

We use the same high-quality roast in our pods as in our whole bean espresso. The result?

A smooth, nutty espresso with a rich crema, ready in seconds.

The pods are fully recyclable and compatible with most original-style Nespresso machines. It’s our House Espresso, just in a more convenient suit.

Try our award-winning coffee

Whether you like your coffee brewed black, made into a latte, or served quickly from a pod machine, these two are built to deliver.
