This producer group is part of the Cooperativa de Caficultores de Alto Occidente de Caldas which was established in 1964. The San Lorenzo indigenous group are based in the Rio Sucio municipality of Caldas where there are 11,500 inhabitants with 1,150 farmers producing coffee within 21 communities. Until recently, this region was heavily inhabited by the FARC, ELN, Paramilitary groups and guerrillas, who looked to control this central corridor in Colombia. This region has not been known for specialty production but as the local tensions ease and access has improved, it is now possible to demonstrate the quality of the coffees available.
The Red de Mujeres, or 'network of women', is a large group of female coffee producers covering five different areas of Huehuetenango. The group is made up of 830 women, but this particular lot comes from the San Antonio Huista area and is the product of 50 producers. Within the entire community of women there are 8 different Mayan languages spoken, highlighting the diversity of culture and language in this area of Guatemala.
The name "Montañas del Diamante" (Diamond Mountains) was given to the mill by the brothers because the farm is located in the mountains of the Santos Zone (Zona de los Santos). ‘Del Diamante’ means ‘of Diamond’ in Spanish – just like a diamond, coffee is a valuable product extracted from the hillsides.
This lot of Caturra and Catuaí has been processed using the Semi washed method. Upon being selectively hand harvested, with only the ripest cherries being picked, the coffee is delivered on the same day to the mill.
Our coffees are ethically sourced from green coffee buyers who are committed to excellent coffee, excellent standards and paying their farmers an excellent price. We source, roast, blend and pack the coffee ourselves, to ensure that the coffee makes as few journeys as possible once it has left the farm.
