Traditionally, Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving and marks the start of the festive season for our friends across the pond in the United States of America. The term “Black Friday” was coined in Philadelphia, where it was used to describe the heavy increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Over the years, the trend has spread, reached our shores and it’s not unusual to see similar lines of queues and rushes outside high street stores.
This year, as with previous years, we want to break away from the competition to provide the best Black Friday deal and do something that really matters - supporting vulnerable people in our community at this festive time of year.
We will donate 10% of the revenue from the websales of coffee over the Black Friday and Cyber Monday Weekend (Friday the 29th to Monday 2nd) to our charity partner St Leonard’s Hospice.
St Leonard’s Hospice is a Yorkshire based independent charity, providing specialist palliative care and support for local people with life-limiting illnesses. They have an In-patient Unit, Sunflower Centre and Hospice@Home service. In this relaxed and friendly environment, every patient is recognized and treated as an individual. With their support patients are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life. Their care also extends to support families and carers.
Their mission is to provide excellent care and support to those living with life-limiting illness and to the people they care about, to enrich their lives and to contribute to the ongoing development of end-of-life care.
We are proud to be able to offer our ongoing support to such a wonderful, independent charity upon which so many people rely.
If you are looking to make the most of the sales however, we have a few top tips to help you bag a bargain and be prepared for one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
How to Beat Black Friday
Whether you’re looking to brave the crowds for the sales or your planning on snuggling down and making the most of the online deals, we have a few tricks up our sleeve to help you bag the best deals and beat Black Friday.
Do your research
Most brands and stores will be shouting about their Black Friday deals a few days and even weeks before the event.
- Create a new email address specifically for Black Friday and sign up for newsletters of your favorite brands to ensure you’re up to speed with all the available offers.
- Check prices across websites and in-store and find the best deal for you. Some brands may create a bundle deal, but this isn’t always cheaper, particularly if you don’t have use for one of the items.
Plan your route
Proper preparation can be the difference between a Black Friday Bargain and Black Friday Disappointment.
- If you’re heading to a store, ensure that you know your way around the store and where your bargain items are going to be displayed. It will be busy, so be safe, don’t rush and be mindful of fellow shoppers
- If you’re shopping online, be aware that some sites may become slow as a large number of bargain hunters hit the web. To avoid this as much as you can, load up the sites you’re going to visit a few hours before the sale starts, to increase your chances of bagging your deals.
Don’t get distracted
It’s very easy to get caught up in the fun and excitement of hunting out bargains and nailing your Christmas shopping list in one fell swoop, but be savvy, mindful and conscious of prices. Make sure you tick everything off your Christmas list before you get distracted by other offerings, discounts, and bargains.
So there you have it, a few top tips to help you bag the bargain of a century!
